
The National Community Forestry Day 2024 was celebrated on August 8, 2024, in Sunwal-11, Lumbini Province, organized by FECOFUN and GFN. The event aimed to recognize community forestry achievements and foster sustainable forest management practices. Key activities included an interactive session discussing the Local Forest Act, governance within Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs), and community responsibility in forest management.
Speakers emphasized transparency, good governance, and active community participation. Challenges highlighted included operational plan renewal issues and coordination difficulties among stakeholders. Tree plantation activities faced reduced participation due to unfavorable weather. Recommendations were made for better resource planning and backup strategies for weather-related disruptions. The event was considered successful, with positive impacts seen in increased awareness and engagement. It concluded with a call for continued partnership and effective governance to ensure the sustainability of community forests.
